Our New Appointment System:

Online Appointments:

Did you know:

You can make your book ahead appointment online?

Our Appointments System:

With regards to our recent trial of telephone consultations and reacting to feedback from our patients, we have made some changes to our appointment system with some tweaks and improvements

Whenever you contact the surgery by phone or in person at the desk we will now ask you whether you need a ROUTINE book ahead appointment or need our same day URGENT service.

If you have an urgent medical problem, we will then ask you if you require a short 5 minute doctor telephone advice slot or if you would prefer to come to the surgery for a 10 minute face-to-face appointment:

Routine book ahead service (also available for internet booking)

You will be offered the next available routine appointment with any doctor or you may book to see a specific doctor if you prefer to wait longer for his/her availability.

Please use this service if you wish to discuss routine issues or wish to see a specific doctor.

Same day urgent care service

This same day service is intended for urgent care only - either an urgent appointment or urgent telephone advice. If you are housebound please inform the receptionist at the begining of your call.

This service is split between a few doctors on the day so we can rarely offer doctor choice in this urgent situation

We will ensure that all urgent problems are dealt with as soon as possible on the day they arise

Please don't block other patients' need for this service by booking same day for routine matters

Please note that we no longer offer same day availability for routine matters

Home Visit Requests

Requests for home visits should be made before 11:00AM; later requests will be deferred until the following working day unless medically urgent.

We are happy to visit patients who are too ill to attend the surgery, but are unable to visit patients who are fit to attend but have transport difficulties - taxi companies are available to assist. Alternatively, we have evening or Saturday doctor & nurse appointments available should those you are dependent upon be committed with work - ask for an extended hours appointment.

Please remember that attending the surgery means the problem can be dealt with more effectively, as the GP can carry out a more thorough examination or arrange any necessary investigations.

Some useful tips:

Book ahead if you wish to see a specific doctor as we are unlikely to be able to accommodate you on the day.

Please arrive a little before your booked time. A late arriving patient will delay the remainder of the surgery for all remaining patients - for this reason we ask patients arriving more than a few minutes late to rebook for another time.

However, please note that all of our Practice Nurse appointments should be booked in advance by phone or in person, so that we can allocate sufficient time for each procedure. We regret that at the moment Practice Nurse appointments cannot be booked via the internet.

If you are late for an appointment, you may be asked to re-book or wait until the end of surgery to be seen. The doctors try to keep to time but this is not always possible due to the complexity of some conditions. We would request your patience in such circumstances.

Dr Stafford’s Appointments:

How to Cancel An Appointment:

If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know. You can cancel your appointment online.

It is important to let us know if you need to cancel so that we are able to offer your appointment to someone else.

New Text Messaging Reminder Service

We have now introduced a fully automated text and email messaging service designed to reduce appointment no shows and improve response rates of health promotion campaigns.

All registered patients are automatically opted into the service. However if you do not wish to subscribe and this is inconvenient please contact the surgery stating that you wish to opt out using our message service.

We will be using this service to provide you with reminders of appointments and to give you information relating to health promotion campaigns such as flu vaccinations. You can be assured that we will never include your name or any sensitive personal information in the text messages.

Please ensure that if you wish to use this service we have your correct mobile telephone numbers on your medical record. If you have any queries about this service please ask at Reception.

Practice Services

At the practice we offer a comprehensive range of health services.

Dental Problems

If you have an urgent dental problem such as toothache or a dental abscess you should see a dentist not your GP.

If you have a regular dentist you should telephone them and arrange an urgent appointment. If they are closed there should be an answer phone message with the phone number of the local dentist covering emergencies. If you have trouble getting through call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.

Advice is available from dental advisors regarding all dental problems from the British dental health foundation (BDHF).
