Mansion House Surgery National Health Service

SWINE FLU VACCINATION

Mansion House has received the first delivery of the Swine Flu vaccine. We will be putting on special clinics over the coming weeks which will coincide with further deliveries.

If you are in one of the following at risk groups then please call the surgery between 10.30 am and 2.30pm for an appointment.

To help reduce the impact on health, the government has recommended that everyone, in the following 'at risk' groups receive the swine flu vaccination. This is because they are at higher risk of severe illness, should they come into contact with the swine flu virus or at increased risk of infection and transmitting that infection.

THE AT RISK GROUPS
The swine flu vaccine is now being offered to all people in the following recognised 'at risk' groups:
People aged over 6 months - 65 years, who have any of the following conditions:- chronic respiratory, heart, kidney, liver or neurological disease, and diabetes
immunosuppression
Pregnant women
Household contacts of immuno-compromised patients
Persons aged 65 years and over, who have any of the conditions noted in group 1

Could we ask our patients to understand that due to the volume and the type of vaccine that we will not be able to do these on an ad hoc basis in normal surgery? These will only be administered during the designated clinics.

We will be writing to all patients in the at risk groups inviting them to have the swine flu vaccination.

Our Appointments System:

We are continually reviewing our appointment system to offer the best mix of pre-bookable and same day appointments.

Appointments can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance. Same day appointments are made available at 8.30 am by phone on 01785 815555 or 01785 815533 (this number is for appointments only, for all other enquiries please ring the main Reception number on 01785 815555), in person and via the Internet. Different days of the week show different demand for same day appointments and this is taken into account when we reserve appointments for use on the same day. These appointments are divided between the doctors so each will only have a few available so we advise booking ahead if you wish to see a specific doctor.

We aim to offer an appointment with an available doctor within 2 working days. We also aim to always be able to book you an appointment with a specific doctor within 2 to 3 weeks. However, at times demand can swamp the system especially where the doctor has holiday leave, is part time or has a particularly high demand. In these circumstances an appointment can be offered with another doctor. Please note that double appointments can only be booked by phone or in person.

However, please note that all of our Practice Nurse appointments should be booked in advance by phone or in person, so that we can allocate sufficient time for each procedure. We regret that at the moment Practice Nurse appointments cannot be booked via the internet.

If you are late for an appointment, you may be asked to re-book or wait until the end of surgery to be seen. The doctors try to keep to time but this is not always possible due to the complexity of some conditions. We would request your patience in such circumstances.

Dental Problems

If you have an urgent dental problem such as toothache or a dental abscess you should see a dentist not your GP.

If you have a regular dentist you should telephone them and arrange an urgent appointment. If they are closed there should be an answer phone message with the phone number of the local dentist covering emergencies. If you have trouble getting through call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.

Advice is available from dental advisors regarding all dental problems from the British dental health foundation (BDHF).
